Barbaric Yelp

I really want to like this place. It’s great for the west side neighborhood, but unfortunately, they have focused way too much on image and appearance and have tossed service and quality to the side. It’s a great place for enjoying a hard to find beer. The bartenders seem untrained when it comes to making a cocktail or martini, but they can recommend the perfect beer for your tastes. The prices are quite high for standard beers, but the rare beers seem worth the cost. As for the food, I cannot recommend any of it. Let me outline what your dining experience will be like if you are suckered into the allure of the food menu. The menu is extremely limited and focuses on locally grown and raised foods, however, they are frequently out of key items, whittling the selection down to a grilled cheese sandwich or a burger. The selection of appetizers and snacks are plentiful and delicious and are your best option. If you order a hot item, it will, without fail, come out ice cold and inedible. The enticing smell will tickle your nostrils, but the waxed-over cheese or tepid meat will beg you not to eat it. You realize that the sandwich isn’t on the delicious sounding local bread listed on the menu, but a standard store-bought roll. When you try to flag down your server, they will ignore you completely. You will pick at the delicious but helplessly cold garlic fries, and eventually, give up on the meal completely. Half hour later, after you have lost you appetite, your hipster server will slink over. She won’t really care about your pathetic sandwich and will whisk it away in a fury of huffs and eye rolls. The owner will come over to your table and offer you a complimentary dessert, of which, there are only two options remaining from a list of seven. When you decline, he will berate you, swear and touch your arm. The service is poor, the menu is promising but limited by undermining demand, and without prompt service, the food suffers. Stop in for a beer, but visit a different gastropub for food.
