Barbaric Yelp

3 Nov 2009

I went with 2 friends to the Cafe for lunch today. Like another reviewer I *wanted* to like this place. It’s close, in a nice location & a friend’s daughter works there. Service was slow but very attentive at least when it came to our iced tea. Note: the review is brutal and my opinion. Nothing was horrible, just mediocre at best. I ordered the steak sandwich. The steak was tender, I’ll give them that but the “marsala demi glace”? Did they just pull words off of a gourmet site to use? Where was it? The au jus was so salty I couldn’t use it. The jalapeno cole slaw was ok . $11.95. Another ordered the Veggie pasta primavera. Overcooked pasta and veggies. Bland. $12.95 Next order was one of the ‘specialties’. Pork tenderloin. Overcooked few pieces of pork with a few raisins thrown in. Their description “Brown Sugar Rubbed and Grilled Pork Tenderloin. With Sejnoha Caramelized Onion Potatoes and Asparagus. Apple and Golden Raisin Chutney.” 14.95 Nothing special about the pork other than it being salty & overcooked. The potatoes were there to simply fill in the gaps left by the lack of pork & asparagus (3 1/2 pieces of apparently just steamed asparagus). I’m sorry… but to pay 14.95 for 4 1/2” slices of overcooked pork & 3& 1/2 spears of steamed asparagus is wrong. Needless to say I won’t be back. While I’m from SF, CA I’m critical but $52 for 3 for lunch to eat this? Nawwww.
